From May 7 to 11, 2025, Dohing Art(Director_Chung Seunghee) will participate in the NADA Art Fair in New York. Dohing Art is the only Korean gallery among the exhibitors except curated by the organizers.
The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) is a New York-based non-profit organization founded in 2002, dedicated to supporting contemporary art through fostering collaboration, dialogue, and community among galleries, curators, and art professionals. This May NADA will host the 11th edition of NADA New York, presenting a diverse lineup of 120 galleries, art spaces, and non-profits from 19 countries and 50 cities. The fair will highlight 65 NADA members and 54 first-time exhibitors, including Dohing Art. Held in New York, a global hub for contemporary art, the fair reaffirms NADA’s commitment to supporting emerging and established voices through distinctive presentations and cultural exchange.
Dohing Art(Director_Chung Seunghee) has thoughtfully selected two distinctive artists whose practices embody both a singular vision and a globally attuned sensibility, perfectly aligned with the character of the fair. The featured artists are Bárbara Alegre and Minyoung Kim, both of whom have maintained an ongoing and meaningful collaboration with Dohing Art.
Bárbara Alegre is a Spanish artist born in 1976 and currently based in Barcelona. She studied at the Royal College of Art in London, earning her MA in Painting. She is an artist who primarily exhibits actively across Europe, and her participation in a group exhibition with Dohing Art last year served as a stepping stone to expanding her global reach. Through this upcoming art fair with Dohing Art, she is set to further extend her presence into the North American art scene. Her practice centers on creating layered, harmonious compositions that respond to the chaos of the world with tenderness and calm. Often blending natural and human elements, her works explore the interconnectedness of all beings, offering a vision of unity and compassion while inviting viewers into a reflective and restorative space.
Minyoung Kim is a Korean artist born in 1989, currently based in UK. She holds an MFA in Painting with Distinction from the Slade School of Fine Art. Her works have earned her several accolades, including the Slade Print Fair Scholarship and the Terence Cuneo Award. Minyoung Kim has continuously exhibited across Asia, Europe, and North America, and her collaboration with Dohing Art led to a notable presence at KIAF 2023. Kim’s practice centers on exploring the surreal and uncanny through playful yet enigmatic narratives featuring mischievous feline figures. Blending personal emotion with visual metaphor, her work invites viewers into spaces that straddle whimsy and tension, fantasy, and unease.
This May, the NADA Art Fair will take place in Manhattan, the epicenter of the global art scene. It runs at the Starrett-Lehigh Building and opens to the public on May 7th at 4 PM. The tickets can be purchased in advance through the official website.
2025년 5월 7일부터 11일까지, 도잉아트는 뉴욕에서 열리는 나다(NADA) 아트페어에 참가한다. 도잉아트(대표_정승희)는 위원회가 큐레이팅한 부스를 제외하면, 이번 페어에 참가하는 유일한 한국 갤러리다.
나다(NADA: New Art Dealers Alliance)는 2002년 뉴욕에서 설립된 비영리 기관으로, 동시대 미술을 지원하고자 갤러리, 큐레이터, 미술 전문가 간의 협업과 대화, 커뮤니티 형성을 장려해 왔다. 올해 11회를 맞이하는 나다 뉴욕은 19개국 50개 도시에서 모인 120개의 갤러리, 전시 공간, 비영리 단체들이 참여하는 다채로운 구성으로 펼쳐진다. 이 중 65개는 NADA 회원 갤러리이며, 54개는 처음 참여하는 갤러리로 도잉아트도 여기에 포함된다. 현대미술의 세계적 중심지 뉴욕에서 열리는 본 행사는, 신선하면서도 정체성이 뚜렷한 참가자들을 모집하여 문화적 교류를 도모하고자 하는 NADA의 철학을 다시금 확인시켜준다.
도잉아트(대표_정승희)는 페어의 지향점에 걸맞는, 독보적인 미적 언어와 글로벌 감각을 겸비한 두 명의 작가를 선별해 선보인다. 바로 바바라 알레그레(Bárbara Alegre)와 김민영(Minyoung Kim) 작가로, 두 작가 모두 도잉아트와 지속적인 협업을 이어온 인물들이다.
바바라 알레그레는 1976년생 스페인 작가로, 현재 바르셀로나를 기반으로 활동하고 있다. 런던 왕립예술학교(Royal College of Art)에서 회화 석사 과정을 마친 그녀는 주로 유럽 전역에서 활발한 전시 활동을 펼쳐왔으며, 작년 도잉아트와 함께한 그룹전을 통해 아시아로까지 무대를 확장하는 계기를 마련했다. 이번 아트페어를 통해 북미 미술 시장에서도 본격적인 존재감을 드러낼 예정이다. 알레그레의 작업은 혼란스러운 세계를 다정함과 평온으로 감싸는, 층위 깊은 조화의 구성을 중심으로 한다. 자연과 인간의 요소를 교차시키며 모든 존재의 연결성과 공존의 가능성을 탐색하는 그녀의 작품은, 관객에게 회복과 사색의 공간을 제공하며 따뜻한 연대의 메시지를 전한다.
김민영은 1989년생 한국 작가로, 현재 영국을 기반으로 활동하고 있다. 런던 슬레이드 스쿨(Slade School of Fine Art)에서 회화 석사 과정을 우수한 성적으로 마쳤으며, 슬레이드 프린트페어(Slade Print Fair) 장학금과 테런스 쿠네오 어워드(Terence Cuneo Award) 등 여러 상을 수상하며 작품성을 인정받았다. 아시아, 유럽, 북미를 오가며 활발히 전시 활동을 이어온 그녀는, 도잉아트와의 협업을 통해 2023년 KIAF에서도 존재감을 드러냈다. 김민영의 작업은 장난기 넘치는 고양이 도상을 중심으로 기묘하고도 초현실적인 서사를 펼쳐 보이며, 개인의 감정과 시적인 상징이 어우러진 독창적인 세계를 구축한다. 익숙함 속 낯선 긴장감을 자아내는 그녀의 작품은 판타지와 불안, 유쾌함과 침묵 사이를 자유롭게 넘나들며, 관람자에게 내면의 또 다른 차원을 환기시킨다.
이번 나다 아트페어는 글로벌 아트 신의 중심지인 맨해튼에서 개최된다. 위치는 스타렛-리하이 빌딩(Starrett-Lehigh Building)이며, 5월 7일 오후 4시부터 일반 관람객에게 공개된다. 티켓은 나다 공식 웹사이트를 통해 사전 구매가 가능하다.
